As a Mental Health Counselor, my goal is to be as empathic and compassionate as possible to provide services that will help empower, encourage, promote positive change to clients to help them to become the best version of themselves that they can be and to help them to reach their full potential.
Karion graduated from Old Dominion University where he obtained his master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling after completing an outstanding internship right here at VBCC! He is now working towards the next step in his professional development awaiting approval from the Board of Counselors as a licensed Resident in Counseling.
Before joining the VBCC team, Karion had gained valuable experience working with children and adolescents for Norfolk Public Schools as a Therapeutic Day Treatment Counselor. He is a certified Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). As a day treatment counselor, Karion provided services such as psycho-educational and group activities to students to help promote social and interpersonal skills, appropriate peer relations, anger management, impulse control, problem-solving skills, appropriate self-expression, and focus and redirection.
Now Karion is taking the opportunity to continue his career development at VBCC and enjoys working with middle aged and young adults, adolescents and children applying his skills as a QMHP human services counseling and coach. Because of his outstanding demonstration of client care and keen insights, he also serves as Assistant Client Care Coordinator for our Office.
Theoretical Approach: The theoretical approaches that I have adapted into my counseling are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).
